Is the Glock 43 the same as the 43X?
No, and it matters for holsters. The 43X has a longer grip frame and higher capacity than the original 43, though both share the same slide length. Many holsters fit both because kydex indexes on the slide, but magazine pouches and base pads are not interchangeable.
Are base pads worth it on a subcompact?
For most people, yes. The single biggest complaint about the 43 is that shooters with average or larger hands can't get a full firing grip, which costs recoil control. A base pad adds a small amount of length and a flare to index against, enough to fix the grip without meaningfully changing how the gun conceals.
Can I pocket-carry a Glock 43?
It's possible in a large front pocket with a dedicated pocket holster, but the 43 is at the upper limit of what pockets do well. Most people carry it appendix or strong-side IWB, where its thin single-stack profile is the real advantage. If you specifically want pocket carry, a smaller LCP- or Bodyguard-class gun suits it better.
